The new InfoSet Router board (DSL(A)-B10 ETU) transforms
the InfoSet 408 from a Key Telephone System into a complete communications
server!
This unique, cost-effective, single box solution shares an outside
line for voice and data communications. Required data networking elements
(Router, Firewall, LAN, WAN and HPNA ports) can now exist inside the
InfoSet telephone system, eliminating the need for separate voice and
data networks.
New technologies utilizing high speed data:
- Telecommuting
- Home Networking
- Multiplayer Video Gaming
- Movies On Demand
- Video Information Retrieval
- Broadcast Video
- Distance Learning
- Personal Shopping
More About the InfoSet Router:
Shared access to a high speed Internet connection. Computers
on the InfoSet data network (equipped with a network interface card)
can now share a single high-speed connection to the Internet without
requiring a dedicated server PC.
Shared access to files and resources. Peripherals such as laser
printers are available to all PCs on the network. Sharing resources
eliminates the need to purchase multiple devices. Important files and
data can be accessed from any PC eliminating the need to duplicate files
or the requirement that specific work be performed at a particular PC.
Flexible Broadband connectivity options. An Ethernet WAN interface
provides connectivity to external access devices such as a Cable modem
or ADSL modem.
Simple networking with choice of Protocols. The InfoSet Router
supports HomePNA and/or Ethernet for simple and flexible
networking options. The advantage of establishing a HomePNA network
is that it does not require any new or special cabling. HomePNA uses
existing phone lines, which makes it the ideal choice for homes and
established businesses. The InfoSet Router supports HomePNA 1.0 and
2.0, enabling transmission speeds of up to 10Mbps. Ethernet networks
require special wiring but often cabling may already exist for a data
network or can easily be added to new construction. The advantage of
using an Ethernet network is that it supports data transmission speeds
of 100Mbps. A significant advantage of the InfoSet Router is that both
networks can be supported on one system, allowing users to easily
add data stations with HomePNA, while continuing to enjoy the advantages
of their Ethernet investment.
InfoSet Routers built in Firewall and interoperability
with the NEC/WatchGuard® LiveSecurity subscription
service offers security, privacy, and the ability to manage your own
Virtual Private Network (VPN). A broadband Internet access connection
is always on, which means anyone on the Internet can access
your PC if you are not using a Firewall for protection. A Firewall is
very important to keep information stored within your network of PCs
confidential and beyond the reach of outsiders.
Basically, the job of a Firewall is to protect the resources of your
own private network from the users of public networks. An analogy might
be installing a lock on the front door of your home. You can leave through
the front door to visit various public locations, however, with the
lock installed, people on the outside cant get into your home
through that same door. Your privacy and your valuables remain intact.
When your PC is behind the Firewall, you can access destinations outside
your own private network, while the Firewall keeps outsiders from coming
and going as they please within your own private network. This means
that you can fully utilize the many resources the Internet has to offer,
such as e-mail and the web, without giving Internet users on the outside
access to your own personal resources and information. Many people store
confidential information on their PCs, and without a Firewall
they are subject to victimization.
InfoSet Routers Firewall supports basic protection for up to
10 user computers / equipment on the LAN. NEC/WatchGuard LiveSecurity
Service offers a subscription for additional user support of up to 50
seats or expanded Firewall protection.
This optional service provides a higher level of protection by providing
frequent security updates for your system to protect your computer against
constantly evolving security threats. This means frequent notification
of new risks to your data, including the latest information on malignant
viruses sweeping the Internet, along with tools to protect your computer.
An additional benefit available for purchase is the WebBlocker
service option for blocking and filtering web sites. For example, in
a home setting, parents may restrict what their children can view on
the Internet. In a small office setting, workers can be limited to accessing
specific sites or information that is essential to business. Other services
include security alerts and news, tech tips and a personal risk assessment
evaluation.

Additional seats or expanded coverage must be ordered directly from
the NEC/WatchGuard LiveSecurity site. The end user will have the option
of ordering these services from the NEC/WatchGuard LiveSecurity web
site when configuring their Router upon first time use.
